As a general conclusion, I could say that for
the last 14 years the average temperature in
January and February has risen - in January from
0,2°C (32,4°F) to 1,25°C
(34,2°F) and in February from 2,0°C (35,6°F) to
3,95°C (39,1°F). The statistically warmer
December became much colder than February and
the average temperature changed from 2,2°C
(36°F) to 1,6°C (35°F). We can see now that the
winter approaches earlier but leaves earlier
too, and it's duration is getting shorter. After
the mild February we now receive arctic air
masses in March and April, which is very bad for
our agriculture. The climate has changed, but
we can't say for sure that it has warmed up. The
coldest December on record happened just a year
ago and regardless of the increasing of the
average temperatures the arctic air still
reaches our territory each winter and causes
severe extreme lows, even for just 2 or 3 weeks.

is from the Agricultural university in Plovdiv, provided
